Vote for change in Vernon Township
I recently attended Vernon Township's monthly meeting, hoping to participate in an open dialogue about the 2009-2010 budget. I was very disappointed. Sadly, the constituents in the audience were excluded from the discussion. On the meeting's agenda, "audience participation" was the fifth item while the "proposed budget" was thirteenth. How could I participate without knowing what was in the budget proposal?
Apparently, another member of the audience shared this concern. During the only point in the meeting when questions were entertained, he asked for a copy of the proposed budget. Supervisor Peterson told him there was a copy on the hallway bulletin board. Later, during the meeting, the man discovered no copy was there. When the meeting adjourned, he inquired and Mr. Peterson claimed a "miscommunication" and gave him a copy. What happened to the Township Citizen's Party's claim of advocating for an open dialogue with residents? On April 7, I plan to vote for the change Vernon Township needs, a change to a transparent, progressive and fiscally responsible government. I am going to vote for Sam Flint, Peter Hopkins and the entire Vernon Democrats For Change slate. I encourage you to do the same.

April election is chance for change
On Friday, Jan. 9th I had a precinct committeeman knock on my door with a petition. He said it was to keep the
people in office that work in Vernon Township. I asked what have they done for us in the past few years. He was
speechless. I stated that my assessed value and taxes went up again under Gary Raupp and according to local
real estate appraisers my house is appraised about $100,000 over what I can sell it for, but Raupp says the
appraisers are wrong. The township supervisor, Bill Peterson, did nothing about people not mowing their lawn in
my unincorporated subdivision. I don't know much about the other people on the list except for the highway
supervisor. Actually, he is doing a good job and actually cares and helps you if you need help. I did not sign the
petition for the highway supervisor because I would have been also signing for the other people.
There should be a two-term limit on any public office because after time the politicians forget why they are in
office and don't care. They are only interested in power and they forget what it is to like to be a little guy. In this
economy there is no excuse to have the assessed value of property go up. If anyone out there is running
against the Republicans that are in office in Vernon Hills, I support you. It is time for change.
